Time: Midday
Purpose: World's Greatest Shave
It was with feeling of great trepidation I woke up on Friday 12/3/2010 knowing today was the day that I would have my hair shaved off to raise funds for The Leukaemia Foundation. Money raised is used by the Leukaemia Foundation to fund free services to support patients and families living with leukaemias, lymphomas, myeloma and related blood disorders. It also funds blood cancer research to find better treatments and cures. This is a terrific cause and something I am happy to support (even though it is a bit chilly on my ears for a week or so).
So, it is just after 12pm and myself and the other brave souls who are either shaving their heads or colouring their hair have arrived.
We were greeted with a lovely BBQ lunch and then the festivities began.
Not wanting to hang around and let the tension mount (or chicken out), I volunteered to go first.
The hairdresser was fantastic as she initially styled my hair with some terrific Tiger Stripes before proceeding to shave it all off.
There were five participants this year from Alliance, Chris Cummings, Bernie Bruton, Dugald McLellan and myself who had our head shaved and Erika Jojart who coloured her hair.
Chris was the star of the show as the hairdresser had great fun (at his expense) in trying various different styles with his mane until it all disappeared.
A great effort from everybody, as I am led to understand that our efforts raised approx $1000 for a wonderful cause.
It was a terrific day and the support from everyone was fantastic
